South Korea Travel Tips

  • Get a T-Money card — works on buses, subways, convenience stores, and even some taxis.
  • Public transit is extremely efficient — subways are the fastest and cheapest way to get around Seoul.
  • Download Naver Maps or KakaoMap — Google Maps doesn’t work well for navigation.
  • Try the street food — tteokbokki, fish cakes, hotteok, and Korean fried chicken are must-haves.
  • Cafés are everywhere — Korea’s café culture is next level, perfect for breaks between exploring.
  • No tips needed — tipping isn’t common or expected.
  • Free Wi-Fi is everywhere — especially in Seoul and at subway stations.
  • Cash is helpful — many places accept cards, but small street vendors may prefer cash.
  • Bring comfortable shoes — you’ll walk a LOT, especially in Seoul.
  • Visit palaces early — Gyeongbokgung and Changdeokgung get crowded fast.
  • Plan around the weather — summers are hot/humid, winters are cold, spring/fall are ideal.
